India with a population of billion+ sees only 150 people realizing their dream of becoming IPS every year. A tough proposition by all counts! No wonder Indian Civil Services exam is often touted as one of the toughest exam in the world.
Safin Hasan had meager resources at his disposal. However, with sheer brilliance and hard work he went to become one of the youngest IPS officer in India ever – clearing civil services at a young age of 22 years!
Safin Hasin did his schooling from S K M High School in Kandodar, Gujarat. Thus, till class 10th he studied in a small village in Gujarati medium. After scoring 92% in boards, he moved to Ascent School of Science in Palanpur, Gujarat for Higher Secondary education in science stream.
The Hardship Faced:
Safin hails from a small village in Kanodar, Gujarat and has a very modest family background. His father Mustafa Hasan worked in a diamond unit and as part time electrician in the village. Similarly, his mother, Nassembanu worked as domestic cook in her local area. Also she worked at restaurants and banquet hall to earn extra money to pay for Safin’s studies. The family at times even struggled to have proper meals. And under these difficult circumstances, he rose to ranks of Indian Police Service.
Motivation to Join Civil Services:
His passion to join civil services begun after a District Magistrate visited his village, and assured the residents of speedy grievance redressal. He was awestruck with the power and authority of the officer, and decided to toil hard to crack civil services.
Constant Support from Others:
In his success, Safin was constantly supported by family, friends, teaches and even strangers. For example, his High School Principle waived off his school fees of Rs 80,000. Similarly, while preparing for UPSC in Delhi his entire expenditure was borne out by Polra family of Gujarat - Mr Husainbhai and Mrs Jarinben - for continuously 2 years.
In 2017 while on the way to his UPSC exam center, he met with an unfortunate accident. However, he still went to the examination center and appeared for the exams despite the fact that it was a severe accident. In fact, the accident was so serious, that later on he had to be admitted into the hospital and underwent surgery due to knee ligament injury.
The accident did not deter Safin’s conviction and he cracked Indian Police Services in his second attempt.
By securing 99+ percentile in AIEEE, he secured admission into SVNIT, Surat and completed B.Tech in Electronics Engineering in May 2016. Even during B.tech days Safin Hasan displayed ample leadership skills. He has been a Charter President of Leo Club, Kanodar for the year 2014-15 and 2015-16.
Safin Hasan shouldered the responsibility as Environment Secretary of his first year’s hostel “Gajjar Bhawan”. In second year, he was Joint Hostel Secretary of “Tagore Bhawan” and in last year he was Training and Placement Coordinator for Electronics Branch.
In his final year, he presented research paper on “pCell technology” and completed his final year project on “IPv6 Network Design for Campus Environment”.
Safin Hasan has been allocated Gujarat cadre. He took charge as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Jamnagar, Gujarat on Dec 23, 2019 and is currently undergoing Phase 2 training at National Police Academy.
Safin Hasan has also co-founded an NGO named NIRMAAN with objective to educate under privileged students of North Gujarat. Besides, he has also co-founded a NGO in his native villages which enables talented children to showcase their skills.
Safin Hasan continues to be a motivational speaker and his talks has inspired and shaped many lives. He has conducted several free seminars and workshops in leisure time.
